Donor Plaques

WHY: Donor plaques play an important role in our fundraising efforts, ensuring donor funding is recognized and acknowledged by both Splash and the project site. The standard donor plaque allows us to show a cohesive Splash brand across countries and provide consistent recognition for our donors.

WHAT: Splash has designed standard donor plaques to be used at ALL sites initiated after August 1, 2017. The donor plaques include:

  • The Splash logo
  • The site name
  • The donor name
  • Scope of work in both English and the local language.

Plaque designs will be provided by the Seattle Development team.

While we will include donor plaques at ALL sites initiated after August 1, 2017 (regardless of the donor, including at sites funded solely through Splash funding). We also request that older sites WITHOUT plaques install new donor plaques. Sites WITH existing plaques DO NOT have to be replaced with the new plaques.

There are three plaque templates from which you can choose:

  1. A template for projects where we have done a full WASH intervention (India and Nepal)
  2. A template for projects where we have ONLY done a clean water intervention (India, Nepal, Ethiopia handwashing and Ethiopia drinking station)
  3. A template for projects where we have ONLY done a sanitation intervention(India, Nepal, and Ethiopia)

*Splash does not currently install plaques at sites where we have ONLY done a Behavior Change intervention. A donor plaque should be added once a hardware installation (water filter, stations, or sanitation) has been completed.

If a donor funds multiple components of the Splash intervention (water, sanitation, and behavior change), all can be included in one donor plaque. A maximum of 3 donor plaques per donor will be included at a site, unless otherwise requested by the donor, or necessitated by the size of the school. See below for guidance on plaque location.

If a site has multiple donors for one scope of work, the site should list each donor on one plaque, unless otherwise requested by the donor. For sites funded from Splash unrestricted funding, the Splash donor plaque should only include the Splash logo and not include any other donor name or logo. See example here.

Splash country offices should include costs related to donor plaques in grant-level budgets, covering printing and materials for the scope of work covered by the grant.

HOW:

  1. Details on the donor name and scope of work, as well as any additional donor requests regarding design, location, material, etc., will be decided and communicated by the Seattle development team at the time the grant is announced.
  2. The country team is responsible for printing and placement of the standard Splash donor plaque using the template provided. All donor plaques should be printed on acrylic unless otherwise requested or agreed upon between the Seattle development team and country teams.
  3. If using bolts/screws for plaque installation, team members should use the circles found near the corners of each donor plaque to determine proper placement of each bolt.
  4. If it is a full WASH intervention, there should be plaques at the Drinking Stations(s), Handwashing Station(s), and Sanitation Facility. If it is a site where we have only done a clean water intervention, donor plaques should be located at the Splash Drinking Station(s).  If there is a sanitation-only intervention, donor plaques should be placed on the external entry wall of the toilet facility. If a donor funds clean water and a different donor funds another scope of work, country teams should include a donor plaque for each donor and the related scope of work. If space is limited, country teams should discuss location preferences with the Seattle Development team.
  5. Once a donor plaque has been installed at the site, it should be indicated on the Salesforce Site Page, in the Donor Plaque Installed field. A photo of the donor plaque installed at the site should also be uploaded to the site page’s Required Images section, see site photography guidance.

DECISION CRITERIA: The Splash Donor Plaque standard currently affects all sites in India, Nepal, and Ethiopia initiated after August 1, 2017.

For now, Splash Donor Plaques will NOT affect teams in China, Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, or Bangladesh. However, the standard may be extended to one or more of these teams in the future.

 WHEN

  • Each office will designate a donor plaque champion (probably a PSC), much like we have a photo champion. The plaque champion will be responsible for ensuring that donor plaques are created, printed, and installed in a timely manner.
  • Within 60 days of the Seattle development team securing project funding, the Seattle Development team will upload the plaque image, with dedication language in Salesforce, and/or email the donor plaque champion in country.
  • Splash India, Nepal, and Ethiopia will review the spelling and language on the plaque. If correct, they will download and print the attached plaque. If changes should be made, they will reach out to the Seattle Development team to request these changes and Splash Seattle will provide a new plaque.
  • Plaques should be printed while the Splash intervention is taking place and be installed by the time the specific scope of work is completed (i.e. by the time the water filter and drinking stations are installed, the sanitation improvements have been completed, etc.).
  • Salesforce should be updated once donor plaques have been installed at the site, and a donor plaque photo should be uploaded to the Salesforce site page no later than 15 days after the installation is completed.
